We captured a number of photos on our wildlife camera near a waterhole during the dry weather September 2014.
It has only taken us 4 months but we have now put up the photos from the Inaugural Bush Picnic at Wordword. Thanks to Alison for taking them all. They are on a ‘Photo Gallery’ page.
Just a quick post to say thank you to everyone that came and contributed to our LFW Open Day last weekend. As property owners we had a great day. Everyone that came was lovely and it was really interesting to meet people from all stages of the LFW journey – from starting out facing huge weeding tasks to retiring with a job well done. We are looking forward to catching up again. Special thanks to our speakers – it is always great to listen to someone talk about their passion. We have added 10 birds to our species list thanks to Deb.
The Hampton Food and Wine festival the next day was a great finish to the weekend. We would mention the best things we ate but it would be too embarrassing because the list is so long :-). It is sort of a perfect world when you can have a LFW property of your own with a great and growing annual food festival just up the road.
We had a lovely Australia Day camping trip and picnic with family at Wordwood. Highlights included fire roasted Bunya nuts, damper and ANZAC biscuits. In two walks around we counted 13 blooming indigenous wildflowers, and that didn’t include any of the many grasses.
Pete and I have finally started getting up to Wordwood again. Two lovely weekends recently. The weather is superb – the sunny-not-hot-days that make you remember why you live in SE Queensland.
A few hours of working each day. One day, we collected the trees Ergon cut on our easement to make a firewood pile. A pretty good haul (see the photo below). And we keep the easement tidy and avoid collecting naturally fallen timber taking wildlife homes.
We have just returned from a lovely long weekend. Highlight was a visit from 2 year old Matilda (and her parents of course!). A robust, smiling, red-locked angel.
A very cool spotting. While we were reading in bed one evening, the microbats came darting in under the pergola after the insects. A few times we had quite a good angle.
And we made a big decision this weekend – to start trying to record the spiders and insects on the property. Not sure if we are embarking on an exciting, on-going adventure or a heavy burden.
